Sambu Group, a Domestic Investment (PMDN) company, through its business unit PT Pulau Sambu in Guntung, was directly involved in the embankment construction project in Parit Surabaya, Penjuru Village, Kateman Subdistrict, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province. This project is a tangible manifestation of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which aims to protect community settlements and coconut plantations from tidal flooding that often disrupts residents' activities. The embankment construction commenced on May 27, 2024, and was completed on October 31, 2024.
The embankment has a length of 5,317 meters, a bottom width of 4 meters, a top width of 2 meters, and a height of 1 meter. The total budget allocated by the company for the construction of this embankment was IDR 440,200,000.00 (four hundred forty million two hundred thousand rupiah). This infrastructure is designed to provide better protection for local residents, especially against the risk of tidal flooding that frequently inundates the area.
Tidal flooding in this area not only damages community coconut plantations but also hinders children from going to school and disrupts other residents' activities. With the presence of this embankment, it is hoped that the community can carry out their daily activities more smoothly and safely. The embankment can also be utilized by residents as a road, thereby assisting community movement and facilitating the distribution and transportation of agricultural and plantation harvest. The handover ceremony for the embankment was held on September 4, 2024, attended by representatives of the regional government, community leaders, and the management of PT Pulau Sambu in Guntung. This event symbolized Sambu Group's commitment to making a real contribution to the community and the surrounding environment.

A. Ginting, Head of Public Relations of Sambu Group, stated, "We believe that the company's existence must have a positive impact on the surrounding environment. With this embankment, the community, including school children, can now carry out activities more safely and comfortably. In addition, coconut plantations and residents' homes are also protected from the risk of tidal flooding."
Meanwhile, H. Junaidi, S.Sos, M.Si, Head of Kateman Subdistrict, added, "We highly appreciate Sambu Group's efforts in constructing this embankment. The existence of this embankment will greatly assist the community of Penjuru Village, especially in overcoming the problem of frequent tidal flooding. This is a concrete example of how companies can contribute directly to the welfare of the community."
As a PMDN company that has been established and operating for more than 50 years in Indragiri Hilir, Sambu Group continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability principles throughout its business lines, including through CSR activities that target the real needs of communities around the company's operational areas.
The construction of this embankment is an important initiative in supporting the resilience of coastal areas and strengthening the people's coconut ecosystem, which is the backbone of the regional economy.
